Wednesday's Printable Words: Mini Advent

Hi there. I made a mini advent printable here for you to have & to share. 

The purpose of Advent is to bring our minds & hearts back to the real reason we celebrate Christmas. This time of year can get so busy & stressful. I designed the printable to have something to read and share with your family each Sunday and then on Christmas Eve & Christmas. 

I hope this Advent Season brings you into closer communion with the Lord. I took these verses from an Advent devotional that I picked up last year by Robert V. Dodd, who is a United Methodist minister.  Here are 2 devotionals that I recommend during the Advent Season:

I am sure there are others out there that are great too, but these are the ones I've chosen to share with my family. Wednesday's Printable Words: Recipe

Hey there! I am busy in the kitchen today prepping some side dishes and desserts for Thanksgiving Day. I have such fond memories of the Holidays as I was growing up. Mom would bake the best goodies. Now that I have my own family it has taken a little bit to evenly mix traditions from both sides of our families. I want to make celebrating the Holidays memorable for our boys.
I love sweet potato biscuits and want to share this recipe with you. I have tweaked a couple of recipes together to make it my own. These biscuits are best when fresh out of the oven and are SO tasty with some Honey Butter (I use Country Crock) or Pumpkin Spice Butter.

'Tis the season to give. There have been times when we, as a family, have had the heart to give, but not the funds. This homemade gift is perfect for those who want to give to the people you want to bless. I found this Taco Seasoning Recipe on pinterest. View some of my other favorites on my Yummy In My Tummy Pinterest board.

I found these cute little mason jar shakers at WalMart. They are only a dollar each. I already had the seasonings in my kitchen cabinet. You can probably find a majority of these seasonings at the dollar store for less than at the grocery store. I mixed up the ingredients and filled each glass container with the taco seasoning. I used some of my scrapbook scraps to make the recipe tag and looped a ribbon around the neck of the shaker. Then I wrapped it all up in miniature brown paper bags that I found at the craft store. Voila! You've got a cute little gift to give to a special friend. These are also a great idea for a Wedding Favor. Enjoy!

Wednesday's Printable Words: The Raven

So, I was surfing last night...on the web, and found a whole bunch of cool stuff on Edgar Allan Poe. I enjoy reading about artists' thought processes and life events that inspire their work. I first read "The Raven" in high school English class. I didn't really get it then, but knew it was a poem that had a pattern of rhymes in it. I re-read it last night. It's amazing that works of art, whether written or visual art, are loved all the more hundreds of years after they were created. "The Raven" was published on January 29, 1845 in the New York Evening Mirror. 

With Halloween a little over a month away, I wanted to share a few printables that you can use now to go with the season. Hope you enjoy!

Motivation for Monday: The Heart

WARNING: I AM GOING TO SHARE RAW EMOTIONS HERE!

It seems commonplace for a young woman or a young man to struggle with issues of self-confidence and self-worth. Outward appearances especially are judged by strangers, peers and figures of authority alike. 

I can remember when 90210 was a popular show to watch. I was an avid viewer. My favorite couple on the evening sitcom was Brenda & Dylan. I wanted so much to look like Brenda that I brought the People magazine cover shot of Shannen Doherty to my hairdresser's to give her a visual of the haircut I wanted. My hairdresser in South Florida was awesome and my Shannen Doherty hair came out just like I'd hoped. I am so attuned to this Entertainment Babylon that I still am inclined to bring a picture of a female celebrity to my hairdresser's as a visual directive. I don't know whether that's normal or pathetic. Ha!

Once upon a time, I was 26, and was involved in a Bible Study. It was the first Bible Study that I chose to participate in without any outward influences. I had been married for a year. I had gained a bit of weight and was unhappy with the way I looked. I suffered from Panic Attacks, Separation Anxiety, and depression all at once. I was also in the midst of finishing up my B.A. degree. Life seemed so overwhelming to me. A friend of mine shared a book with me called You Are Not What You Weigh. While reading this book I came across the Bible verse above. This verse in I Samuel freed me of some of binding chains. To know that my Creator, my Heavenly Father thought more of me than I did. I have the eye of my Savior. He thought I was worth saving. The Lord cared about where my heart was, NOT what the numbers said on the scale and certainly NOT what my thought process was when I looked in the mirror. I read this verse over and over and over. Then I started, very slowly, believing Him at His Word. The Panic Attacks, the Separation Anxiety, the depression did not go away over night, but it did eventually go away.

 

I had to bring it home. I had to lay my insecurities down and make them known to God so that He could guide my thoughts in a more healthy way. Don't get me wrong, I haven't turned off E! News or stopped pinning my favorite artists/celebrities. Reality TV, like The Voice and Dancing With The Stars, are my favorite shows to watch. Now that I know where my worth is I can still take in the culture stuff without it damaging my self-confidence. It took a long time for me to get to this place. Like I said, it didn't happen over night. I look at it this way, God is an artist and He creates beautiful people & beautiful things. I get to photograph some of those beautiful people & beautiful things. I am so thankful for beauty because it is lovely to behold. I am also very thankful that the Lord finds my true worth and beauty in my heart. The heart is what really matters. If this brings you anything, my prayer is that it brings you some assurance & hope...

Hey there, sports fans! I am a Gator through and through. Being a football coach's wife, football is on in my house 365 days a year...I'm not exaggerating. My husband can watch an old game, a new game, 30 for 30, whatever. If it's football related and my hubby is home, then it's on the TV. The only 2 football related things I ever watch is Friday Night Lights and a Gator Football Game. So in honor of the beginning of my 10th football season as a coach's wife, I chant, "Go Gators!" First of all, I want to say how honored I am to be asked by Karrie to be her guest blogger this week as well as her first photographer guest blogger! What a privilege! I met Karrie at a photography retreat we both attended. She has such a kind spirit and truly enjoyed out time together at this retreat. It was awesome to be able to learn more about photography together and practice our art.

Blogging is not something I am very faithful at doing in my own photography but not only has this inspired me to do just that, it has also given me a push to learn something new. I love seeing quotes/verses around my house on a daily basis and have my own prints framed in my house with various verses and quotes on them. In my recent Bible studies, I have been contemplating how, as Christians, we as a people tend to get caught up in the "do's & don'ts" instead of the gift we were given as a follower of Christ. When Jesus died on the cross as a sacrafice for our sins, the old covenant laws were nullified. The laws were hard to uphold and when Jesus came and died for us, he replaced the law with grace. We can be free, knowing that Jesus took care of the hard stuff and all we have to do is let him be the director of our lives! So, this printable is based in 2 Corinthians 3:17. I encourage you to read it and experience that freedom that only comes through HIM! With that said, here is Wednesday's 8x10 printable!

Wednesday's Printable Words: I Love You

Good Morning! Today's printable is very special. This printable has dual duty. It looks pretty in a frame AND you can write on it with dry erase markers. Above, you'll see my little set up I have in my kitchen.

I met with a sweet friend last week who encouraged me to find ways to show my husband that I love him. She reminded me that a man's ego is fragile and needs to be boosted by his beloved. If I am persistent with this, then he will begin to notice and reciprocate. I was very excited about this relationship assignment. So much so that I came home that day and created the above "I Love you today because...".
I printed it out, placed it in a framed, and wrote my first message. Beau noticed immediately and followed suit. It has been a marriage revival. The smell of the saltwater and suntan lotion, the feel of the sand between my toes. Beholding the beautiful colors, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, there is healing at the beach. I was so blessed to live close to the ocean growing up. I miss it. This image was taken almost 2 years ago in South Florida at Deerfield Beach.

Motivation for Monday

Good Morning & Happy Monday!
The first Monday of 2012. I hope that this year is blessed one for you and your loved ones.
As I was pondering the post for today, 3 words kept coming to my mind: faith, hope, love.
There are 4 verses in the Bible that talk about faith, hope, and love together.

They are:
1) I Corinthians 13:13 ~ And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.


2) Colossians 1:5 ~ the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that 
     you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel


3) I Thessalonians 1:3 ~ We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith,
     your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.


4) I Thessalonians 5:8 ~ But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a 
    breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.


I just love that the greatest of these is LOVE. God IS Love. Love covers over a multitude of sin. We love because He first loved us. Love is the greatest because God is the greatest of all! I hope you feel how great God is and how great His Love is for you this year. May you have a healthy & happy 2012! Love to you ~ xoxo
